There are many excellent restaurants in San Francisco and the top 25% are probably equal to the top 5% in most other large cities. However, if you want to impress your friends with ostentatious surroundings and stuffy waiters, stay in Dallas or Atlanta. For those not familar with San Francisco, some of the best seafood in San Francisco is found in the many small, simple Cantonese restaurants. Listed below are some of our visited restaurant, some have good reviews, others don't.

Probably one of the best restaurants in San Francisco and the US. Excellent food, friendly and superb service.Single menu, changes daily; so be sure to check what will be on the menu when you make your reservation. Expensive but a real value for the quality of the food and service. Cozy, intimate setting that is not pretentious.

Chez Panisse Cafe - 1517 Shattuck Ave - Berkeley
Casual upstairs restaurant with its own kitchen and a wider menu choice. Excellent food.

First rate dining and service without being pretentious.

Seafood
Aqua - 252 California - Financial district
Elegant, sophisticated, upscale excellent seafood; but don't go if you are interested in sand dabs, patrale or red meat.
